Paper Wild: An Adventure in Print, Leaf & Cloth
A Hands-On Exploration Workshop
This class is for the explorer.
We’ll take paper somewhere unexpected by experimenting with three very different ways to work with plants, leaves, and paper.
What We Do
We’ll begin with something you find on a walk — a leaf, a stem, a sprig — or you can choose from my collection in class. We’ll coat the botanical with paint and use it to create a one-of-a-kind botanical print, letting the plant’s shape, veins, and imperfections become part of the design.
Then we’ll move into preserved leaves. You’ll learn how to cut, layer, and combine them to create your own sheets of leaf leather — flexible, richly textured material made from the leaves themselves.
And finally, we’ll do something that sounds almost impossible: turn paper into something that behaves like cloth. Using the traditional Japanese technique of Momigami, we’ll soften, work, and transform paper until it becomes pliable, tactile, and fabric-like. Tactile lovers will go nuts for this one!
And here is where it can get really interesting.
You could allow your first botanical print to become the beginning of a triptych — three related pieces created through three completely different processes. One printed. One built from leaf leather. One interpreted in Momigami cloth.
Same inspiration. Three materials. Three experiments.
A chance to get a little wild with paper.
You’ll leave with a piece from each round — no two people’s sets will look alike.
Beginner-friendly- big time!
