“Dog with a Rope” – Mixed Media Art

A delightful surprise, Dog with a Rope is a proud member of the Animal Collection by local artist Harmony Thiessen.

I didn’t plan to paint a puppy. But puppies seem to find their way into my work whether I intend it or not. If you look closely, you’ll see that to view the dog’s face, you actually have to rotate the piece and orient my signature so it sits in the upper right corner. But I didn’t paint it that way.  I was playing with twine, thick paint, and texture… and I liked what emerged.

A month later, while rearranging pieces, I accidentally hung it differently. I stepped back—and there he was. A patient little dog, just waiting to be noticed. Moments like that make me wonder how much beauty I miss in life when I’m looking at things from a predetermined point of view.
