Hi, I’m Harmony Thiessen

Abstract Paintings, Mosaic Designs, and Unique Greeting Cards
I am an artist living and working primarily in Bellingham, Washington. I paint abstract using acrylic and watercolor on canvas, wood, and paper. I’m especially drawn to large-scale paintings and have been privileged to have my work grace the walls of both public spaces and private homes. Over the years, I’ve operated retail studios in British Columbia, Colorado, and Washington, each one offering new opportunities to connect to the world through art.
Recently, I’ve begun exploring mosaic art, working with glass and stone. I’m fascinated by how broken pieces can come together in harmony to form something whole and beautiful again — a tangible reminder that what’s fractured can still shine.
My greeting card line, Butterflies, is where my love of words and imagery meet. Each card expresses something real, raw, and deeply felt. They aren’t for everyone, but for those who like to inspire others, they rarely stop at just one.
I love teaching workshops and helping others tap into their own creative freedom. I offer ongoing workshops as well as custom sessions for parties, organizations, and teams looking to grow personal or professional creativity. Each workshop blends self-discovery, creative problem-solving, and plenty of fun as we learn to step aside, loosen up, and create with confidence.
Harmony Thiessen Art is committed to supporting community organizations that tirelessly assist, support, and educate us all about living our best lives – together.

Mystery Becomes A Mirror
There is a mystery of life — the way nature, animals, and all living beings seem to communicate in a language beyond words. My art is born from that fascination. I paint to explore the hidden yet deeply felt.
After decades of work in developing countries through leadership institutes and relief efforts, I carry an enduring awareness of how our experiences shape how we see the world. I believe we each live within our own landscape of understanding — we interpret what we encounter through the beliefs and stories we hold about life.
Art reveals what’s waiting for the viewer to see
Abstract art, like poetry, invites participation. It allows space for nuance, emotion, and mystery. I love creating work that offers a concept or feeling, then steps back and lets the viewer find their own meaning within it — their own truth.
My values, formed through years of service and connection, inform how I live and do business. Art can make a difference not only in what it expresses but also in what it gives. For that reason, I donate between 10 and 40 percent of every purchase to charitable causes close to my heart.
Each piece I create is a quiet invitation — to pause, to wonder, and to remember the unseen layers beneath the surface of our shared human experience.
What’s up with the Butterflies?
Butterflies hold a special place in my heart — not just for their beauty, but for what they represent.
Their entire existence is a living metaphor for transformation. To become themselves, they must surrender what they once were. They let go of the caterpillar life, trusting an unseen process, and reshape.
When they emerge, they see the world from an entirely new perspective — light, free, and elevated. They move through life not just to survive, but to serve. As they travel from flower to flower, they pollinate the very world that sustains them, quietly nurturing the cycle of life for plants, animals, and human beings alike.
This rhythm of becoming, giving, and connecting inspires everything I do — in art, in business, and in life. The butterfly reminds me that real beauty is born in transformation, that purpose and generosity can coexist, and that when we open our wings, we have the power to pollinate the world with hope, kindness, and color.
